The Legacy Continues....

The Ventura County Baseball Academy was created by Dustin Tubb, Steve Henson and Marcus Garcia in 2015 to develop junior high players and prepare them for high school baseball. The program has grown and now includes teams at several age groups. VCBA 17U and 16U teams play in elite tournaments and showcases to prepare players for college baseball. The VCBA home field is Newbury Park High School and players are welcome from throughout Ventura County and the San Fernando Valley.

VCBA Black Cats

VCBA Black Cats will conduct practices and training sessions at Newbury Park High School on the Varsity field, 3 cage batting facility, bullpens, and the pitching training wall. The training will be conducted on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:00 – 7:00 PM. There will also be strength and conditioning on Fridays. Workouts begin 8/9 and 8/11 at the NPHS Varsity field. VCBA Black Cats is a developmental program to prepare middle schoolers for high school baseball.

***Workouts are open to all 7 and 8th grade baseball players in the area***

Curtis Scott – Head Varsity Baseball Coach Newbury Park High School

  • 32 years of coaching experience – 2 Years at Pepperdine University, 12 Years at Moorpark College, and 18 years of high school experience

Tim Carr – Pitching Coach Newbury Park High School / JV Assistant Coach

  • 20 years of coaching experience – played professional baseball for the New York Mets and Kansas City Royals

Tim Ginther – Instructor with VCBA

  • 7 years of coaching experience. Played at Ventura College and William Jessup University

Practice and Training

Offense (focus on building and developing the swing and approach)

  • Tee work and drills
  • Batting practice in cages and on the field

Defense Infield Play (focus on building and developing the footwork and throwing mechanics for playing the middle infield and comer positions)

  • Agility and footwork drills for all infield positions
  • Hand drills
  • Progressive infield ground ball work, bucket drill, short fungo, fungo 4 tee ground ball drill
  • Video analysis of fielding and throwing mechanics
  • Throwing program and routines
  • Team defense, infield play, cuts and relays, 1st and 3rd defense and bunt defense

Defense Outfield Play (focus on building and developing the footwork and throwing mechanics for playing outfield)

  • Agility and footwork drills for outfield
  • Outfield communication
  • Flyball and ground ball mechanics
  • Video analysis of fielding and throwing mechanics
  • Throwing program and routines

Defense Catchers Play (focus on building and developing the footwork and throwing mechanics for playing catcher)

  • Agility and footwork drills for catchers
  • Blocking drills
  • Receiving drills

  • Throwing program and routines

Pitching (focus on building and developing arm strength, and upper and lower body mechanics for pitchers)

  • Throwing program and long toss program
